Summer 2025 Writers' Lab

Meets Online, Thursday Nights, June–August 2025

This class is for any writer who could use a shot of inspiration and play, along with deadlines and a chance to connect with community. We will do a mix of generative writing sessions, short craft talks, explorations of published work, along with two chances to workshop. The class is for both those who want the structure and support to write a new story (or two) from scratch—even if it's your first ever—and also for those who might be on draft 15 of their novel and want to reconnect with their sense of creative possibility, while maintaining forward momentum on their project.

Limited to 8 writers, we will spend several sessions in the space of exploration and generation, before having the chance to read and discuss each others' work.

Cost

The cost of the class is $270/month, or $790 if you pay up front.

About the Instructor

Ted Thompson has been working with writers as a teacher, editor, and manuscript consultant for over a decade. In addition to Longhand, he teaches in the Brooklyn College MFA Program and for Sackett Street Writers' Workshop.

His novel The Land of Steady Habits was a finalist for the Center for Fiction First Novel Prize and was adapted into a film for Netflix. He was a finalist for the 2021 National Magazine Award in Fiction.

He received an MFA from the Iowa Writers' Workshop, and lives in Brooklyn with his family. To learn more about Ted, see here.
